Windows Live Local is the latest mapping service put out by MicroSoft and no wonders its following the tradition of a beta tag.
Here's what I could see when I viewed DALLAS, it was hard to believe my eyes. I could see cars parked, buildings terrace, I could clearly make out the architecture, roads, fields and not to mention the trees spread everywhere. I was able to see most parts of the United States from a height of 40yards. Isn't this cool online service.
Microsoft is really fighting back, its time for Google to be on its toes! Anyway, its us who enjoy the battle;-) I think many people would save their trip to foreign countries. Travel agencies beware!

Earthquake remains to be one among the most devastating of all natural calamities. Did anybody predict an earthquake ever? None! Humans do have some limitations, they rarely understand mother earth. Ok, this is not the end, today humans are trying to invent machines that could predict earthquakes around you. In this process CTech Supercomputer is designed to have the power to make this possible. Yes, you are right, we would have an 'Earthquake Warning' system in hand. Thank god!
The California Institute of Technology said earlier this week that it has created the most powerful computer clusters in the academic world to unlock the mysteries of earthquakes. The supercomputer, which runs computational geosciences applications, looks into the Earth the same way a computerized axial tomography (CT scan) looks into the body slice by slice. Some 500 kilowatts of power and 90 tons of air conditioning are needed to operate and cool the hardware--enough kilowatts to power 350 average households.

I get a pile of attachments everyday to check and play with but I often get fedup with the routine of downloading each and every attachment to check its content. Most information sucks and worth not downloading and wasting my bandwidth as well as precious time. I know its broadband age[only for modern/developed countries] but still every byte here is billed.
Now GMail has acted upon this important usability to make life a lot more easier with mail attachments. This feature is termed 'View as HTML' which is tagged with every attachment format it understands. Just click on the link and your attachment opens as a html page keeping in tact all the details and data. As of today most of the important file formats like .doc, .pdf,.xls, etc., are being supported.
Isn't internet life becoming easier. This story started way back from the age where images were downloaded to be viewed and now its turning more interesting with every format parsed to html. What about zip, tar, rar formats? Any idea's how these can be involved in this success story. You can! Just give a wild try!

We had a long long discussion on how he can constructively use his holidays and we first came up with plans for internship but we could not guess any company that would provide internship for 20 days[Any guesses?]. Our next option was to send him to work with my friend, just like apprentice, for 20days to gain practical exposure in his field. My friend surprised with a small twist by redirecting us to the next avenue. He suggested my brother to join CAD[computer aided design] in a good training institute. We had no other choice but to search for a good institute in Chennai, the place where I am presently put up to work.
We didn't know how to start searching for training institutes. Unfortunately we didn't have any friends in chennai who knew much about mechanical training institutes. Yah, my next step, googled but left with very less options. One was CADD Center and other was Exceed Technologies.
CADD Center:
It had years of experience in training large pool in mechanical software. They are authorized AutoDesk trainers. They have their head office in Chennai but spread its wings in many places all over India. Their history sounds strong but their ambiance and hospitality and look and feel is very poor. We stepped into one of their centers to see their old class rooms. We had a receptionist who could not even properly speak in english but thank god we soon got hold of the center manager who was simple down to earth man. He had all the patience in the world to explain what the training was all about. The class rooms were crowded and every thing was congested. I even think classes here happen in their mother tongue. Anyway has poor looks but strong background.
Exceed Technologies:
This is brand new training center and its a sister wing of Exceed Inc., which does consultation and design of industrial mechanical structures and civil architectures. They had industrial experience behind them. They ambiance and look/feel was very pleasing. They had a good receptionist ,who happened to be a business development personnel, gave a good intro and said what their strengths considering their counterparts. They really did impress us eventhough they did not have must of a training experience behind them. They had modules which is tailor made according the the students specifications. How many centers would offer that? They had good class rooms well equipped and by the way they are authorized AutoDesk trainers. Anyway has good look but weak background.
Both had their advantages as well as disadvantages. We had to almost toss a coin to choose the right one. I recommended Exceed Technologies for my brother as English was their medium of communication and thought this would surely help my brother improve, today's commercial language, english. So went ahead and put him into Exceed Technologies. I wish him all the best on this phase of his life.
By the way, receptionist at Exceed Technologies was gorgeous.
